Jovan Sets the Record Straight in “New Beginning”

In the leading single from her upcoming EP “Intellectual Frequencies” (coined by Chicago’s Emon Fowler), Jovan Landry does not pull any punches on “New Beginning”, which drops Monday, May 22, 2023.

Make it stand out

In the leading single from her upcoming EP “Intellectual Frequencies” (coined by Chicago’s Emon Fowler), Jovan Landry does not pull any punches on “New Beginning”, which dropped today.

Produced and penned by Landry, New Beginning speaks on who she is at this point in her life. Through the lyrics, she shares her newfound confidence and determination to stay true to herself, overriding the naysayers that attempt to distract her along her journey.

It's a reminder to take stock of how far we’ve come and how to pave the way for where we’re going next. Landry's voice is captivating from the start, and her passion, wit, and charisma shine through in the pocket of the beat. Listening to this song is like being taken on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. It's a perfect summer anthem for anyone who's ready to start a new chapter in their life and take control of their future.

From what began as a beat created on Instagram Live, to premiering during her performance at the street festival "Argyle Night Market, to transforming it into a full-length song that was released today on all streaming platforms. The smooth deep house/hip-hop is a vibe that is reminiscent of rain, water dance an outpour of love for life.

“As I began to release singles on a monthly basis, I knew I wanted The Outpour to be a part of that arsenal. I went back to the drawing board to find its structure and story, finding lyrics that would surprise the listener at the end, and even implementing automation to give it that DJ / club vibe that the song naturally gives.” — Jovan Landry

Jovan Kicks off Monthly Releases with “Just Practice” and “Soul Jounce”

"Just Practice" and "Soul Jounce" are the first tracks that will kick off my monthly music releases as a commitment to myself both as an emcee and beatmaker.

"Just Practice" and "Soul Jounce" are the first tracks that will kick off my monthly music releases as a commitment to myself both as an emcee and beatmaker. Here's a big shoutout to Sarah, The Illstrumentalist dropping this free gem of a tip to stay consistent in this game.

While it can pose a challenge, this will help Landry stay in the groove and keep her pen and finger-drumming sharp. Some of these tracks you'll hear are songs she’s held in her back pocket, and some are brand-spanking new. This is a lesson of releasing and allowing the world to listen to what Jovan offers.

Shaping the Culture. By Jovan Landry

1/3 filmmaker, photographer, and Emcee Jovan Landry share a personal narrative on how her life has been a creative love story since the very beginning. Head on over to Anthrday and give her narrative a read.

CURATED BY KARMYN STEWART— “My name is Jovan Landry, I am 28 years old and I’m an interdisciplinary artist from Chicago. My focus is on filmmaking, photography and hip-hop music, but I also have other creative gifts. For years, I’ve used the slogan “⅓ filmmaker, ⅓ photographer and ⅓ emcee. I don’t allow myself to choose one over the other because I am passionate about them all and they all interconnect together: Whether I’m editing my music videos or creating graphics out of photographs that I’ve taken are ways I’ve utilized my skills to the fullest capacity. I create because media is so powerful in terms of getting out information, and I want a hand in shaping the culture through my voice and with my gifts.”

Jovan’s Intensely Personal “Growth”

“I’m growing as a person. I’m growing as an MC,” Chicago rapper, photographer, and filmmaker Jovan Landry, who raps under the mononym Jovan, says outside of a Wicker Park bar where she’s just wrapped a lively set. She released her fourth album, Growth, at the end of October, and she’s speaking about the title’s relevance.

BY ZACH GASE VIA BANDCAMP— “I’m growing as a person. “[This project has] different lyrical content, dealing with things that I usually don’t talk about—for example, my sexual identity, like queerness and falling in love and breaking up. I don’t really talk about that kind of stuff, but I think it’s important to talk about, especially in this era, to talk about what you stand for—what you believe in, what you feel.”
