danceGATHERING 2018 Recap
danceGATHERING is annual two-week antidisciplinary performance lab/art festival/gathering/convention for creatives coming from diverse backgrounds, which takes place in Lagos. It was co-founded in 2017 by Hajarat Alli and Qudus Onikeku, and co-curated in 2018 and 2019 by Qudus Onikeku, dancer, choreographer and artistic director of the QDance Center Lagos, and Onye Ozuzu, the Dean of the School of Arts, University of Florida USA. Operating as a horizontal, co-creation and co-learning space where everyone is an expert in something, where there is freedom of experiment. danceGATHERING invites artists, thinkers, dreamers, healers and other in-classable mutants, who are all radically shifting the boundaries of knowledge in their various fields and localities, to connect by philosophies and practically collaborate together, on ideas that doesn’t necessarily fit into one discipline.
From 2018-2020, Jovan Landry was invited to participate in danceGATHERING, both as a collaborating artist and to provide video documentation to the festival.
