Jovan Landry will be screening Take Some Leave Some’s “The Procession” where she served as videographer, editor, performer, and sound artist. The Procession is a multidisciplinary, performance installation that was created as a part of a performance series funded by the Pullman Laboring Together Grant. We used choreographic scores that referenced Black Church gestures to inform how we shaped the performance (praising, giving honor to spirit, love, joy, finding peace), and built a “home” installation space where Black women could be vulnerable to express, experience and give love in all of its forms. The Procession acted as a cleansing ritual clearing the neighborhood of the energies and systems that deny Black women love and making room for the spirit of love in all of its fullness. We processed through the neighborhood past the church into our performance space situated in a home in the Pullman neighborhood. This dance film imagined the camera/lens as a fourth performer.
