WORLD VIBE (EP)

For Jovan Landry, World Vibe is dedicated to the dance community, her hometown of Chicago, and travels to Nigeria, Haiti, and Cuba. It is a fuse of black dance music genres worldwide through Dancehall, House, Afro-Caribbean, and Afrobeat instrumentals. Considering the times we're living, Jovan elevates with vibes that are warm, celebratory, and free.

“Make no mistake—dance music is born from black culture. Without black creators, innovators, selectors, and communities, the electronic dance music we hold so dear would simply not exist. In short, dance music is deeply indebted to the global black community and we need to be doing more. Black artists and artists of color have played a profound role in shaping the sound and culture of dance music and now more than ever, it is necessary for everyone in the music community to stand up for the people that have given us so much.” — Chris Stack, Dancing Astronaut

MUSIC VIDEOS

Ubique ft. T.Ayo Alston

"Ubique means “Everywhere” in Latin. The Soca sound of the Caribbean heartbeat penetrates through your soul, giving your ears a rhythmic massage. Like the waves of the sea, reaching the ears of the people who live close to waters that flow like the melodies of this track. Clap your hands and stomp your feet to this and you’ll find yourself sonically in paradise." -ABJZ

Soulstice Siesta ft. Keisha Janae

“After traveling to Cuba, and witnessing the phenomenal Eddie Palmieri play at the Chicago Jazz Fest, Soulstice Siesta was conceived. Summertime in the Spanish/Latinx culture is described as solstice or siesta. The conversion of solstice to Soulstice emphasizes how much passion and soul go into Cuban music. The aggressive horns and freestyle bell solo grabs your attention, inviting your hips to experience an Afro-Cuban hip-hop vibe." -ABJZ

Warehouse ft. Keyierra Collins and Ambe’r Johnson

"The inspiration for Warehouse derived from the very same nightclub that birthed Chicago House Music. This genre of music was first popularized in the late ’70s by DJ Frankie Knuckles aka The Godfather of Chicago House. Allow the high pass filters and the draggy flangers to lead your body into a hypnotic sweat." -ABJZ

Dance choreographed and performed by Keyierra Collins and Ambe'r Johnson. An Afro-Contemporary Medley with influence from Sabar, Afro Street, Chicago House, Afro-Footwork, Modern and Groovin'. Costume by Ambe'r Johnson. Music, Cinematography & Editing by Jovan Landry, Assistant Camera by Etiti Ayeni and Aaliyah Christina.
